Like Slay the Spire? Try talking your way through Griftlands

Our pick for Slay the Spire fans who want a story to go with their next deck.

In Griftlands, getting into an argument means drawing cards. You build one deck for fighting and another for negotiation, so talking your way out of trouble takes a good hand too.

Our Algebra says Slay the Spire + Disco Elysium, or Slay the Spire + Citizen Sleeper. Maybe it’s the conversations that can win you friends or make you enemies, or the business of taking jobs and deciding who to trust. Kill someone and their friends can hold it against you. There’s a life around the card battles, and your choices make it messier.

Each of the three playable characters has a separate campaign, with their own cards and people to deal with. The catch is the pace. Some players find the runs long, and the conversations can get in the way if you’re itching for the next card battle.

Our recommendation

Try it if you like building a deck but want more say in what happens around the fights. It helps to enjoy making a few questionable friends along the way.
